The Panasonic miniDV cassette is designed for recording video in digital video cameras of mini DV format. Video recording is performed in digital DV format with high quality stereo sound.
All miniDV camcorders support recording in LP mode, when a cassette holds 1.5 times more video. On a standard Panasonic miniDV video cassette for 60 minutes in LP mode, up to 90 minutes of video can be recorded. Unlike analog formats (VHS, video8, Hi8) when recording in LP mode on a miniDV cassette, the video quality does not deteriorate and remains the same as when recording in standard SP mode. A larger amount of video fits by cutting the high frequencies of the audio channel. If you shoot using the built-in microphone of the camcorder, ie. do not use a remote microphone, then cutting the frequency range of sound in the LP mode will not actually be noticeable.
The DV video format allows frame-by-frame editing. You can delete or insert any frame in the video sequence, and also process any video frame as a regular photo. To transfer video from the miniDV cassette to your computer, you do not need special equipment to digitize the video. Simply connect the camcorder to the computer.
The dimensions of the cassette are 66x48x12.2 mm. The width of the tape is 6.35 mm.
